This Cookie Policy explains the small number of cookies and similar browser-storage technologies that the ScholaGH platform uses, and why. It forms part of, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies and local storage are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser so it can recognise your device on later requests. Local storage is a similar browser feature that lets a site remember small settings on your own device. ScholaGH uses both only where they are needed to make the service work or to remember a display preference.

2. What ScholaGH uses

We use only strictly necessary cookies and a small amount of preference storage. We do not use tracking, advertising, or profiling cookies.

Name Type Set by Purpose Roughly how long it lasts
sessionid Cookie (essential) ScholaGH Keeps you securely signed in as you move between pages. Up to 8 hours, then the session expires.
csrftoken Cookie (essential) ScholaGH Protects forms and actions against cross-site request forgery. Per browser session / up to 1 year.
sg-theme Local storage (preference) ScholaGH Remembers your light or dark display choice. Until you clear it.
sg-sb, sg-plat-sb-collapsed Local storage (preference) ScholaGH Remembers whether the sidebar is collapsed. Until you clear it.
sg_ann_dismissed Local storage (preference) ScholaGH Remembers which announcement banner you have dismissed, so it does not keep reappearing. Until a new announcement is posted, or you clear it.

The session and CSRF cookies are marked Secure in production (sent only over HTTPS) and the session cookie is HttpOnly (not readable by scripts).

3. What we do not use

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics cookie.
  • We do not use advertising, retargeting, or social-media tracking cookies.
  • We self-host our fonts, icons, and scripts, so no third party sets cookies through the ScholaGH platform.
  • We do not use cookies or local storage to profile students, staff, or parents.

The cookies listed as essential are required to provide a service you have asked for (a secure, signed-in session), so under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) and the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) they do not require separate opt-in consent. The preference storage keeps only a display setting on your own device and does not identify you.

5. Managing cookies

You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings, and you can clear local storage the same way. If you block the essential session and CSRF cookies, you will not be able to sign in or use the platform.

6. Changes and contact

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time and will change the "Last updated" date above when we do. Questions can be sent to [email protected] or by post to Greater Accra, Ghana.
